THE MORNING LINE "Monkeys are superior to men in this: when a monkey looks into a mirror, he sees a monkey."
Malcolm De Chazal

Happy Year of the Monkey! China Institute has a couple of fun events for families and the Empire State Building's Fifth Avenue lobby has windows to mark the occasion featuring Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. Check your horoscope here.

The Monkey Bar, 60 E. 54th [Mad/Park] 212.288.1010, part of the New York landscape since the early '30s, is in new, good hands with restaurateur Ken Friedman (Spotted Pig, The Breslin). The restaurant is located in the Hotel Elysée where Mel Martin was at the piano, incredibly, from1945-1983. We never heard him resist referring to the place as the Hotel EasyLay.

Also monkey-themed: the Gorilla Cheese truck, Brooklyn's Gorilla Coffee, and at the Drunken Munkey, 338 E. 92nd [1st/2nd], a hat-tip to the British in India.

Shock the Monkey is a figurine by Ludvig Löfgren. Special order, $183.

The best selection of Curious George stuff is in someplace called Boston but you can order online.

A pair of Mottahedeh-designed monkey bookends is $165 at William Wayne, 846 Lex [64th/65th] 212.737.8934 and 40 Univ [9th] 212.533.4711.

Two simian stories in upcoming books: Wattana: An Orangutan in Paris by Chris Herzfeld and Because They Needed Me by Michael Blumenthal.

Monkey Moments at the Bronx Zoo.
